Driver Flees After Striking Teen on Scooter, Says Report

A driver struck a child on a scooter near a Maricopa gas station on April 25 and reportedly fled the scene with the child in his vehicle. The incident took place at the Circle K on John Wayne Parkway, causing concern among local residents.
Kristie Sims Blackamore, the mother of the injured 15-year-old, is seeking information regarding the driver. “If anyone has seen the guy that hit a kid on a scooter at the Circle K on Bowlin, please reach out,” she appealed on social media. “The guy hit my son, put him and his scooter in his car, and dropped him off at home before leaving.”
Later that evening, Blackamore reiterated her plea, expressing frustration over unclear surveillance footage from the gas station. “The Circle K camera lenses are too dirty to see any cars or anyone coming in or out of there… just ridiculous,” she posted.
According to a spokesperson from the Maricopa Police Department, the driver remains unidentified. “The 15-year-old described it as a ‘low-speed’ contact that knocked him off his scooter,” Monica Williams stated. The boy suffered a small scratch on his arm and soreness from the fall.
Williams mentioned that the description provided was too vague for the police to locate the vehicle. Arizona state law mandates that drivers involved in any crash, whether on public or private property, must remain on the scene, provide their information, and render assistance as needed. The driver in this incident did not comply with these regulations.
This is the third such incident involving children in Maricopa this month. Previously, two children riding scooters were hit by a car on April 7, and another child on a bike was struck near Butterfield Elementary School just days ago.
