A dramatic car chase unfolded in the Village of Oak Creek on Saturday, October 19, capturing the attention of bystanders at a local restaurant. Videos recorded by a witness detail the pursuit and arrest of 28-year-old Daniel Lee Warner, who allegedly fled from Sedona police and Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers.

The incident began at Posse Grounds Park, where Warner reportedly smashed a car window with a rock during the Fest of Fall community event around 6:02 p.m. Following the report, Sedona officers spotted Warner’s vehicle near Safeway and attempted a traffic stop.

Warner reacted by swerving into oncoming traffic on State Route 89A at high speed, prompting officers to halt the chase. However, another officer observed him traveling east on Cooks Hill. Again, the decision was made not to pursue when Warner raced into a middle lane.

The situation escalated when DPS troopers engaged Warner on State Route 179. He entered the Village of Oak Creek, maneuvering through traffic and roundabouts at a notably slow pace, making circles around the Bell Rock Boulevard area.

Amid the pursuit, a trooper deployed stop sticks, successfully bringing Warner’s vehicle to a rolling halt at a roundabout. Videos shared by Tom Watson showcase the tense moments as officers shouted commands for Warner to exit the vehicle.

In the recordings, a trooper can be heard instructing Warner to “turn around and walk back.” Warner’s response raised concerns, as he reportedly asked, “Why don’t you kill me right now?” Moments later, transport to safety was enforced when a trooper deployed a Taser, leading to his apprehension.

Warner was taken into custody and is now housed at the Yavapai County Detention Center in Camp Verde. Reports indicate that he expressed refusal to pull over during the chase, and formal charges are expected to follow.

This incident is not new for Warner, who has a history of run-ins with law enforcement. Previous arrests include an aggravated assault on a police officer in January 2023, traffic violations, and excessive speeding in October of this year. Current legal proceedings regarding these earlier charges remain active.
