Elise Densmore has become a familiar face in Maricopa, known for her vibrant salesmanship of Girl Scout cookies.

Whether it was a quick stop for Thin Mints at Fry’s or a spontaneous purchase of Tagalongs outside Walmart, many locals have encountered her enthusiastic pitches. Some residents have even garnered a reputation for buying sizeable quantities, adding to the local cookie lore.

What began as a hobby in second grade has evolved into an impressive sales achievement. Densmore, with the unwavering support of her mother, Dawn Flores, has sold over 17,000 boxes of cookies throughout her years in the Girl Scouts.

“I actually didn’t calculate the total until now,” Densmore remarked, laughing from her kitchen. “It feels a little insane but fulfilling.”

Each year, Densmore aimed for loftier goals. Starting with a modest target of 200 boxes, she has achieved record sales of 5,000 boxes in a single season, each milestone rewarding her with trips to Disney World and other adventures.

Densmore’s success is attributed to her strategic approach. “I ask everyone,” she stated. “Every person who walks by—I engage them. Most won’t stop unless prompted.”

She estimates handing out flyers to approximately 2,000 homes each year, with her door-to-door efforts resembling a political campaign.

When questioned about her success rate, she confidently asserted, “If 10 walk by, seven will buy.”

Her efforts have generated over $85,000 for the Girl Scouts, funding a variety of activities and returning resources to her troop for outings ranging from surf camps to theater trips.

Densmore, a theater enthusiast, plans to major in theater and marketing at Eastern Arizona College this fall. The Girl Scouts have not only taught her sales skills but the art of storytelling.

However, her journey hasn’t been without challenges. As she grew older, some questioned her commitment, presuming she had outgrown the program. Yet, Densmore took on mentorship roles, guiding younger scouts and preparing for her role as camp counselor.

“She’s unafraid to approach people,” Dawn Flores proudly noted. “The confidence gained through Girl Scouts is invaluable.”

Dawn has been instrumental during cookie season, organizing sales and ensuring their endeavors run smoothly. “We’ve always been an ‘in and out’ family,” she joked, recalling their intense selling periods.

As Densmore prepares to graduate, she passes the responsibility to her longtime cookie co-captain, Victoria, a neighbor who has been part of the journey.

When it comes to favorites, Densmore has a clear choice: “Samoas. No question.”

Remarkably, her biggest sale stands out: “One guy bought $300 in one go. Just said, ‘Give me a variety.’ I was in shock.”

This chapter may close for Densmore, but she will remain involved with Girl Scouts as a counselor, continuing to inspire future generations.
