Documents Uncover Chilling Threats Before Gilbert Woman’s Murder Two Years Ago

Rachel Hansen, a 19-year-old woman from Gilbert, Arizona, was murdered two years ago, and her case remains unsolved. New investigation documents reveal chilling details leading up to her tragic death, prompting continued calls for information.
Recently, 12News reviewed over 300 pages of police reports and interviewed Kim Hansen, Rachel’s mother, who expressed her belief that someone must know critical details surrounding the case. “This was not a random act of violence,” Kim stated, underlining her conviction that answers are out there.
The investigation resurfaced when 12News obtained the transcript of a distressing 911 call made by Rachel. On that fateful night in June 2022, she reported an intruder had entered her apartment near San Tan Village Parkway. Although bodycam footage captured officers arriving at the scene, much about their actions remains unclear, particularly the timeline of their entry and what they discovered inside.
Documents suggest Rachel had been threatened in the weeks leading up to her murder. Notably, she had reached out to police in April 2022 to report being threatened by her fiancé’s father. The Gilbert Police Department has remained tight-lipped regarding any investigations into those threats, with Assistant Chief Jim Bisceglie stating, “Our detectives tirelessly investigated every lead.”
Many sections of the obtained reports were redacted, as officials are concerned that releasing too much information could compromise ongoing investigations. This lack of transparency frustrates Rachel’s family, as Kim Hansen articulated, “It’s so hard as a grieving family to wait so long with no answers.”
Despite the documentation labeling the case as “inactive – suspended,” Bisceglie assured the public that it remains active, highlighting the complexities of case classification within their system. He mentioned ongoing investigations prompted by tips received through the Silent Witness program, stressing the importance of community involvement. “I’m pleading with people that know what happened to do the right thing and come forward,” Bisceglie urged.
A GoFundMe effort aims to bolster the Silent Witness reward for pertinent information related to Rachel’s murder. Currently, any tip leading to an arrest could earn a $10,000 reward. “If we continue to raise funding for the reward money, it might encourage someone to share what they know,” Kim Hansen remarked, echoing the family’s desperate hope for justice.
