Disney reveals 'Bluey' animated movie is in the works

Bluey, the beloved blue heeler from Australia, is transitioning from television screens to the big screen. The hit animated series, which premiered in 2018, will see its first feature film released theatrically in 2027, announced by Disney and BBC Studios this past Tuesday.

The film aims to capture the charm and humor that has resonated with audiences, focusing on Bluey’s adventures alongside her sister Bingo and their parents, Bandit and Chilli. Since its debut, “Bluey” has captivated viewers globally, emerging as the most-watched series on Disney+ in 2024 and winning prestigious awards such as an Emmy and a BAFTA.

Joe Brumm, the show’s creator, will write and direct the upcoming film. The original vocal cast, including Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, are confirmed to reprise their roles. Brumm expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting that the journey toward a feature film feels like a natural progression from the series. He aims to create an engaging experience for families.

The production is a collaborative effort between Ludo Studio and BBC Studios. Ludo Studio’s co-founders, Daley Pearson and Charlie Aspinwall, reflected on their journey, thanking the talented team behind “Bluey” that has brought the series to life. They emphasized their excitement about showcasing Queensland’s artistic talent through the film.

Following its theatrical run, audiences can look forward to streaming the movie on Disney+. The anticipation is building as the world prepares to experience a new chapter in Bluey’s story.
