'The Desert Within' exhibit at Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum explores desert perspectives

A new art exhibit, “The Desert Within,” will debut at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum’s Ironwood Gallery this Friday, January 10, at 4 p.m. This exhibition highlights the complex interplay between humanity and the desert environment.

Curator Jennifer Lindquist expressed her admiration for the diverse range of artworks featured in the show. The exhibit showcases creations from the Five15Arts Collective, a group of twelve artists based in Phoenix. Their pieces encompass various mediums, including paintings, photography, and textiles, each artist offering a unique interpretation of desert ecosystems.

Among the featured artists are Harold Lohner, Bob Allen, Daniel Prendergast, Sheri Ashton, and Wendy Raisanen. Lindquist noted her familiarity with their work prior to this exhibition, recognizing its alignment with the museum’s mission of conservation through art education. The planning for “The Desert Within” has spanned over two years, a process intensified as the museum focused on regional talent following the pandemic.
