Dirt Bike Chase Ends with Teen’s Takedown After Engine Failure

Portland Davis, 19, was arrested Friday night following a police pursuit in Maricopa. An officer observed him and two other dirt bike riders operating on private property near McDavid Road, adjacent to Maricopa High School. Upon activating his lights and sirens, the riders fled in different directions.
During the ensuing chase, two riders escaped while Davis became stuck when his bike stalled. The officer approached and arrested him without further incident, as detailed in the police report.
During the arrest, law enforcement discovered a Mike’s Hard Lemonade, a 10-ounce bottle of Jack Daniel’s Southern Peach, and 4½ ounces of marijuana in Davis’s possession. He now faces multiple charges, including failure to stop, trespassing, possession of marijuana, and possession of alcohol under the legal drinking age. Additionally, he is charged with furnishing a tobacco product due to a vape found in his bag.
Previously, in December 2023, Davis and his mother, Jennifer Vyfhuis, were taken into custody for allegedly assaulting a child’s caretaker. Police used tasers on both during the incident. Body camera footage of the event was later released by Maricopa police.
Davis encountered further legal troubles on January 6 when he was arrested in Casa Grande on shoplifting charges. After failing to appear for a January 13 court hearing, a warrant was issued for his arrest, which has since been quashed.
If convicted on the current charges, Davis faces a potential maximum sentence of 2½ years in prison.
