Did Someone Strike It Rich with the $619M Mega Millions Jackpot?
The Mega Millions jackpot has reached an impressive $619 million, marking the potential for the 10th largest win in the game’s history. This comes after an extended wait of three months without any winners.
The last jackpot was claimed on September 10, when a ticket sold in Texas matched all six numbers for a staggering $810 million prize. So far this year, there have been only three Mega Millions wins, including a $1.1 billion ticket purchased in New Jersey back in March, which remains unclaimed. Winners have a one-year window to collect their prizes.
This big prize follows the record Mega Millions jackpot of $1.6 billion, sold in Florida in August 2022. The odds of clinching this elusive jackpot stand at more than 302 million to one, while the chances of winning any prize are significantly better at one in 24.
Starting in April 2025, playing the game will cost players $5, an increase from the current $2 ticket price. Lottery officials attribute this price change to a plan that aims to enhance jackpot odds and frequency of payouts.
The winning numbers for Tuesday, December 10, 2024, were 12-14-26-48-52, with the Mega Ball at 21 and a Megaplier of 5. When someone matches all five main numbers along with the Mega Ball, they can choose between an annuity paid over 30 years or a one-time cash payout, with most winners opting for the latter to receive their winnings more quickly.
Drawings for Mega Millions occur every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
