Diamondbacks End Losing Streak with Dominant 5-0 Shutout Against Pirates

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks halted their five-game losing streak with a decisive 5-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday night. Ryne Nelson led the charge on the mound, allowing just four hits over 6 2/3 innings while striking out four and walking none.
Eugenio Suárez and Josh Naylor each contributed to the offensive onslaught. Suárez hit a 433-foot homer in the third inning, marking his 15th of the season. Naylor followed suit in the fifth with his sixth home run, solidifying a significant lead against Pirates pitcher Andrew Heaney.
Arizona’s 5-0 win allowed them to return to a .500 record, improving their standing to 27-27. Justin Martinez entered in a challenging situation during the eighth inning, inheriting three runners with no outs, but he successfully stranded them to preserve the shutout.
The Pirates continued their struggles, now 6-20 on the road and having been shut out nine times this season, the highest in Major League Baseball. Heaney’s performance included five runs and eight hits in five innings, while Braxton Ashcraft made his major league debut, allowing two hits in three shutout innings.
Arizona’s offense started early in the game; Randal Grichuk’s single and Gabriel Moreno’s double set up Tim Tawa’s sacrifice fly, followed by Ketel Marte’s RBI single, which brought the score to 2-0.
Marte extended his hitting streak to nine games, going 2 for 4 with a walk. The Diamondbacks’ strong performance puts them third in the league with 75 home runs, while the Pirates remain last with only 37.
Looking ahead, the Diamondbacks will face RHP Corbin Burnes on Tuesday, while the Pirates will start RHP Mike Burrows, who holds a 7.20 ERA.
