Deadly fire reported at East Valley mobile home park

A tragic fire at a mobile home community near Mesa early Monday morning has resulted in the death of an elderly woman and her dog.

The incident was reported to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office around 6 a.m. Neighbors alerted authorities after noticing flames and heavy smoke coming from the roof of the residence. Firefighters responded swiftly, managing to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjacent homes. However, at least one other mobile home experienced melting damage.

Louann Van Bergen, a neighbor, expressed her shock, stating, “Sad, sad, unbelievable thing. We’ve never had anything like this, ever.”

According to local residents, the home was occupied by a couple and their dog, Happy. The husband had left for work shortly before the fire ignited, leaving his wife—who reportedly suffered from Alzheimer’s or dementia—at home with the dog.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation; authorities have indicated that foul play is not suspected at this time.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
