Maricopa recently faced an unusual weather pattern, ending a 147-day dry spell. Coincidentally, Desert Sunrise High School had planned its inaugural baseball game during this challenging forecast. Unfortunately, the rain has returned just in time for the highly anticipated event.

Coach Andy Dixon expressed his disappointment, noting the excitement among the players eager to kick off their inaugural season. Originally slated for last Thursday, the first game was delayed due to overnight rain.

In an email, Dixon conveyed, “Unfortunately, I have some bad news to report. Due to the excessive rainfall overnight and into the early hours of this morning, we are going to have to cancel this afternoon’s baseball game. It saddens me to have to tell you, but everything happens for a reason.”

The game was rescheduled for today, but weather forecasts indicate more rain. “I can’t believe it,” Dixon lamented on Thursday morning.

This inaugural game is significant for Desert Sunrise, as the school has operated for three years without a baseball team despite having practice fields ready. The rescheduled makeup game is set for next Thursday, with a promising forecast of clear skies and sunshine.

The baseball diamond was ready to host this historic match, but the rain clouds hindered the debut for the Desert Sunrise baseball team.
