Dem VP nominee Walz returning to Tucson on Saturday

Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz is set to return to Tucson on Saturday, Nov. 2, as political campaigns nationwide intensify their efforts in the lead-up to the Nov. 5 election.

Although the exact time and location remain unconfirmed, the Minnesota governor aims to hold a campaign event in Tucson following a day of activities in Flagstaff.

Walz’s visit underscores Arizona’s crucial role as a swing state in the ongoing presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.

Both Harris and Trump are scheduled to appear in the Phoenix area on Thursday, highlighting their strategic focus on Arizona. Since Labor Day, numerous campaign figures, including Walz and GOP vice presidential candidate JD Vance, have actively engaged with voters in the state. Notably, former President Barack Obama has also made appearances in Tucson.

Current polling indicates a competitive match in Arizona. Trump secured the state in 2016 but narrowly lost it to President Joe Biden in 2020, with a margin of only about 10,000 votes.

Early voting sites open Thursday and Friday for those looking to cast their ballots ahead of the election. Emergency voting locations will be operational on Saturday and Monday, providing additional opportunities for voters.

On Election Day, Pima County plans to operate 126 vote centers, allowing residents to cast their ballots at any location regardless of their precinct.
