Democrat Senator Unveils Controversial Bill Aiming to Undermine Border Security

Arizona State Senator Analise Ortiz has introduced a new legislative proposal aimed at supporting immigrant communities in the state. Dubbed the “Immigrant Trust Act,” the bill seeks to create an environment where individuals can access essential services without the fear of deportation.
In her announcement, Ortiz articulated the bill’s core intent: “to ensure Arizona’s immigrant communities feel comfortable seeking medical assistance, reporting crimes, and completing their day-to-day activities.” She criticized Republican leaders for their rhetoric, asserting it has fostered an atmosphere of fear among all immigrants—documented and undocumented alike.
“No one should fear that living their normal, everyday life could lead to deportation,” Ortiz stated. She emphasized the significance of distinguishing state and local law enforcement from federal immigration authorities, a point she believes is critical for citizen safety within Arizona.
The introduction of SB 1362 comes amidst ongoing changes to federal immigration enforcement, particularly following the inauguration of President Donald Trump. Many Democrats have voiced strong opposition to the heightened focus on immigration enforcement, arguing for the protection of individuals residing illegally in the nation.
Ortiz concluded her statement with a strong message to her colleagues, urging them to support the bill. “Our community is fed up. It is past time to make Arizona a fair and welcoming state. Passing the ‘Immigrant Trust Act’ is the first step toward making that a reality,” she declared.
The bill has been assigned to the Senate Military Affairs and Border Security Committee, chaired by Republican Senator David Gowan. Given the Republican majority in the chamber, the likelihood of the bill passing out of committee remains uncertain.
