Deadly Shooting Incident Near Mesa Bus Stop Claims Woman’s Life
MESA, Ariz. — A tragic shooting incident early Tuesday morning has claimed the life of a woman in Mesa, as confirmed by local police authorities. The shooting occurred near Center and McKellips Road, resulting in the unfortunate death of the victim.
Eyewitnesses reported a man with a rifle firing shots aimed at a nearby bus stop. Mateo Velázquez, a resident of Mesa, recounted his experience while walking his dog at approximately 7:30 a.m. He recalled hearing around a dozen gunshots.
“After bringing my dog inside, I went to see what was happening and witnessed the chaos,” Velázquez said, describing the scene where he found the woman lying motionless at the bus stop and a man frantically calling 911. “He was freaking out,” Velázquez added. “There was nothing anyone could do; she was clearly deceased.”
Detective Richard Encinas from the Mesa Police Department noted the swift action taken to apprehend the suspects close to the crime scene. Utilizing real-time crime center technology and helpful descriptions from witnesses, officers were able to stop a vehicle linked to the incident less than a mile away.
“Thankfully, many witnesses provided detailed accounts rather than merely recording the event,” Encinas stated, highlighting the importance of community involvement in solving such cases.
As of now, two individuals are in custody, and police have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation is being treated as a homicide case.
Authorities have advised the public to avoid the intersection of Center and McKellips due to the ongoing investigation, which has led to road closures in the area.
This is a developing story, with updates expected as the investigation progresses.
