4 dead, 14 injured in Chicago drive-by shooting after album release party

CHICAGO — Tragedy struck in Chicago’s River North neighborhood late Wednesday as a drive-by shooting resulted in four fatalities and left 14 others injured. Police reported that at least three of the injured are in critical condition.

The incident occurred outside a restaurant and lounge directly after a rapper’s album release party. Eyewitness accounts indicate that an assailant opened fire into a gathering of people before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Authorities are currently investigating the shooting, but no suspects have been taken into custody so far. Initial reports indicated that the victims, comprising 13 women and five men aged between 21 and 32, included two men and two women among the deceased. The injured have been transported to various hospitals throughout the area.

Chris King, a spokesperson for Northwestern Medicine, confirmed that multiple victims are being assessed in their emergency department, though he could not disclose the specific number or conditions of those hospitalized.

This incident underscores the urgent need for discussions around gun violence and public safety in urban areas.
