Naming contest for downtown park to close Nov. 1

Lake Havasu City residents have until November 1 to submit names for the new downtown park, known as the “Downtown Catalyst site.” This location, at the intersection of McCulloch Boulevard and Querio Drive, is part of the Vision 2020 plan aimed at creating a central gathering space, a project that contributed to the city’s second-place finish in the America’s Best Communities Competition in 2017.

The naming contest, launched in early September, offers the winner both recognition and a prize from the city’s Parks and Recreation Department. Jerri Bracamonte, the city’s community engagement officer, emphasizes community involvement in this initiative.

After the submission period ends, the Parks and Recreation Department will collaborate with department heads to narrow down the name suggestions. Subsequently, the community will have the opportunity to vote from a selected shortlist.

In May, the Lake Havasu City Council approved a bid from Concord General Contracting, Inc. totaling $2,646,465 for the park’s development. This funding will cover grading, landscaping and irrigation, utility installations, lighting, and paving for pedestrian and vehicle access. Planned features include a concrete circle, four shade structures, and expansive grassy areas.

The park is slated to open in 2025, promising to enhance community engagement and activity in the downtown area.
