Danhof Claims Region I Title in 10k as Pima Women’s Track Dominates with 34 Points at Championships

Danhof capures 10k-meter Region I title as Pima women's track earns 34 points to start championships

The Pima Community College women’s track and field team kicked off its postseason at the Region I multi and 10,000-meter championships held at Mesa Community College on Monday and Tuesday.

Ranked No. 8, the Aztecs accumulated 34 points, positioning themselves ahead of Central Arizona College and Mesa Community College, both of whom stand at 21 points.

Sophomore Reatta Danhof from Ironwood Ridge High School secured first place in the 10,000-meter race, finishing in 39 minutes, 40.04 seconds. Her performance not only qualified her for the NJCAA national championships but also earned the team 10 crucial points.

The team garnered a total of 20 points solely from the 10,000-meter event. Just behind Danhof, sophomore Linda Rivero of Desert View High School placed fourth with a time of 40:14.18, also achieving a national qualifying mark and adding five points to the team’s tally.

Freshman Elexia Aragon, representing Flowing Wells High School, finished fifth in 43:07.06, contributing four points. Additionally, Elizabeth Coppola from Pusch Ridge Christian secured eighth place with a time of 44:32.89, earning one team point.

In the heptathlon, the Aztecs achieved 14 points. Freshman Hannah Droeg from Casteel High School claimed third place with a score of 4,500 points, elevating her to No. 2 in Pima school history. Her performance surpassed Jackie Trice’s record of 4,453 points set in 2023.

Droeg’s third-place finish brought six points for the Aztecs. Layla Konski, another freshman from Ironwood Ridge High School, finished fifth with 3,829 points, adding three more points. Sophomore Tyler Washington placed sixth with 3,485 points, securing an additional three points, while April Necaise, also a sophomore, rounded out the group in eighth place with 3,273 points, contributing one point.

The Aztecs will continue their pursuit of championship glory at the Region I Championships, scheduled for April 29 and May 1 at Mesa Community College, with events commencing at 5 p.m. each day.
