Crew Member’s Miraculous Escape as Concrete Truck Wrecks Chaos on US 60 in Mesa

MESA, Ariz. — A concrete truck lost control early Wednesday morning, causing serious injuries to a worker on a highway in the East Valley. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. on the US 60 near Val Vista Road as employees from Desert Veterans were conducting cleanup operations.
The truck veered off course, striking one of the workers, identified as Jordan Curtis. He was swiftly transported to a local trauma center for treatment of multiple broken bones and lacerations. Desert Veterans described Curtis as “lucky to be alive” given the circumstances.
Footage from the scene revealed other workers quickly vacating the area to avoid being hit. The cement truck also collided with a vehicle belonging to Desert Veterans.
This event highlights the precarious nature of roadside work, according to a statement from Desert Veterans. They emphasized the need for enhanced safety measures, stating, “This was a preventable tragedy, and it should not take another worker being critically injured for change to happen.”
Desert Veterans has a contractual agreement with the Arizona Department of Transportation to manage highway cleaning and maintenance tasks, emphasizing the risks their workers face daily.
