The Maricopa ARTS Council, in conjunction with the Maricopa Library and Cultural Center, will present a free lecture series entitled Inside the Creative Mind from January through March 2025. This marks the thirteenth iteration of this wintertime event.

The series will feature five distinguished speakers, each bringing a unique perspective on creative evolution. Lectures will occur in the library’s Redwood Room, allowing for intimate discussions and engagement.

Launching the series on January 23 at 5:30 p.m., author Kay Fisher will share insights from his extensive background in science and technology, boasting over 40 years in the field. Fisher, also an accomplished photographer and aviation enthusiast, has a notable history in developing high-speed computer technology.

On February 1, from 4 to 6 p.m., abstract artist Janna Blackburn will take the stage. Renowned for her emotionally charged narratives, Blackburn’s artwork, which showcases a blend of traditional and contemporary styles, has been recognized across the Southwest, including winning MAC’s 2024 Abstract Art Contest. She is passionate about creating art that reflects societal themes.

On February 20, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., author Tom Schilling will discuss his unconventional and edgy storytelling. With a prolific output of 20 novels and numerous short stories, Schilling’s works have garnered attention in various literary circles, marked by his unique experiences as a neurodivergent writer.

March 8 will see Laura Olivieri present her viewpoints from 2 to 4 p.m. A multi-talented artist, Olivieri is known for her children’s book Where Are You: A Child’s Book About Loss and her role as director of the Maricopa Music Circle chamber orchestra. Her diverse background encompasses poetry, videography, and agricultural expertise.

The final installment features Navajo weaver Tiffany Yazzie on March 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. With a familial lineage steeped in weaving traditions, Yazzie’s work aims to honor her heritage through vibrant textiles that embrace both traditional and modern designs. Each piece represents a significant time investment, reflecting her deep connection to the craft.

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers during Q&A sessions following each presentation. This series promises to be enriching and insightful for anyone interested in the creative arts.
