Chinese-made faucets sold on Amazon could cause lead exposure, CPSC warns

Federal regulators have issued a critical warning regarding certain faucets sold on Amazon, citing potential lead exposure. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has urged consumers to stop using specific bathroom and kitchen faucets manufactured in China after tests indicated they may leach hazardous levels of lead into drinking water.

The CPSC’s alert highlights significant health risks associated with lead exposure, particularly affecting infants, young children, and pregnant women. Health issues linked to lead include developmental delays and behavioral problems.

According to the CPSC, the companies behind these products refused to conduct voluntary recalls. In response, the agency took the unusual step of issuing a public health alert. The faucets sold for prices ranging from $30 to $70 and often lack branding, safety certifications, or source-identifying labels, complicating consumer identification.

The faucets flagged by the CPSC are:

  • VESLA HOME Kitchen Faucet
  • KZH Bathroom Faucet
  • CEINOL Bathroom Faucet
  • Rainsworth Bathroom Faucet
  • NICTIE Bathroom Faucet
  • HGN Kitchen Faucet
  • Qomolangma Kitchen Faucet
  • Kicimpro Kitchen Faucet
  • VFAUOSIT Kitchen Faucet

Consumers who possess these faucets are advised to discontinue use and dispose of them immediately. For those unable to do so, running cold water for at least 15 seconds before consumption is recommended. Moreover, the CPSC suggests purchasing replacement faucets certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61, which limits lead levels.

Additional safety measures include:

  • Flushing water systems after periods of non-use.
  • Using cold water for drinking and cooking.
  • Regularly cleaning or replacing faucet aerators.
  • Contacting local health departments for lead testing.

Consumers can report product defects or related injuries at www.SaferProducts.gov. The CPSC’s Product Safety Warning Number for this alert is 25-269.
