Coyote’s Relentless Pursuit: Woman and Dog Flea from Goodyear Park Drama
A coyote aggressively pursued a woman and her dog at Bullard Wash Park in Goodyear on Wednesday morning, marking an unusual encounter for local resident Andrea Eagle.
Eagle is accustomed to spotting coyotes in the area but described this particular interaction as relentless. “There was a gentleman down the path who warned me about the coyotes that morning. I figured they would just run away from Dae,” she explained, referring to her dog. However, the coyote had other intentions.
In a video shared on Facebook, Eagle captured the coyote circling them and ignoring her commands to back off. “It was literally relentless, following around, circling around us. I was yelling at it, hollering. It wouldn’t stop,” she recounted.
While some online commentators suggested the coyote appeared playful, Eagle firmly disagreed. “I don’t know if there was something wrong with it or why it was being so aggressive towards Dae, especially because he’s so big,” she noted.
Arizona Game and Fish officials advise vigilance around coyotes, as they may become overly accustomed to humans and exhibit bold behaviors. The agency recommends making loud noises and maintaining eye contact to scare them away. Eagle attempted these tactics but found them ineffective.
She expressed regret for not having a repellent on hand, emphasizing the importance of being prepared. “I have pepper spray, a body alarm, and I’ve ordered an air horn. I’ll have all of that on me every time I leave the house,” she stated.
Fortunately, Eagle and her dog managed to escape after receiving assistance from another park visitor. Reflecting on the encounter, she remarked, “This is the first time in four years I’ve seen something like this. They’re a wild animal. So, big dog, little dog, you, just protect yourself and leave the house prepared.”
