Decision on possible raise for county manager postponed until next year

Mohave County Manager Sam Elters is in line for a potential salary increase, but the county’s governing board has decided to defer that decision until January. This development follows the board’s approval of Elters’ contract on November 6, 2023, setting his current salary at $192,192.

The board has the discretion to grant a raise on the anniversary of the contract’s effective date. However, the decision was postponed to allow a review after the 2024 General Election.

Ten candidates are expected to vie for the county’s governing board this election cycle. This includes incumbents Travis Lingenfelter and Ron Gould, who are seeking re-election. Notably, former Arizona Senate Majority Leader Sonny Borrelli will fill a seat after defeating long-term incumbent Buster Johnson in the primaries.

During the recent board meeting, Chairwoman Hildy Angius emphasized the importance of waiting for a new composition of the board before making salary decisions. “There will be a new board with fresh eyes and a new vision for this county,” she stated.

The decision to postpone the raise was passed unanimously, marking a strategic move as the political landscape shifts in Mohave County.
