County Considers Innovative ‘Night Courts’ Amid Superior Court Challenges

The Mohave County Superior Court is facing significant challenges due to a surge in criminal cases, making it the highest in the state on a per capita basis. This increase puts immense pressure on the court’s resources and operations.
Presiding Judge Steve Moss has suggested that implementing a “night court” could alleviate some of this burden. However, he acknowledges potential drawbacks to such a solution, indicating that the complexities of managing court operations at night cannot be overlooked.
The proposal underscores the necessity for additional funding and staffing to ensure the court can adequately handle its caseload. As criminal activity continues to rise, the court’s ability to deliver timely justice hangs in the balance.
