Corbin Burnes Shines as Diamondbacks Crush Rockies 8-0

PHOENIX — Corbin Burnes delivered an impressive performance, striking out a season-high 10 batters in six innings, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to an 8-0 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Friday night. Eugenio Suárez and Geraldo Perdomo each contributed significantly, driving in three runs.
The Rockies have struggled immensely this season, posting a dismal record of 7-37, the worst start through 44 games since 1901. This loss marks their fourth consecutive defeat and their twelfth in the last thirteen games.
Following the firing of Bud Black, interim manager Warren Schaeffer is now 0-4. Burnes (3-1) encountered little resistance from the Rockies, allowing only two hits and three walks, and recorded his second consecutive scoreless outing after recovering from shoulder inflammation.
Making his big-league debut, Rockies left-hander Carson Palmquist (0-1) allowed five runs on six hits over four innings. As the team’s No. 8 prospect, expectations are high, but his debut was challenging.
The Diamondbacks set the pace early, scoring two runs in the second inning, adding one in the third, and pulling ahead with two more in the fourth for a commanding 5-0 lead. Suárez’s two-run single in the seventh extended their advantage to 7-0.
Gabriel Moreno was a consistent presence at the plate, reaching base four times with two doubles, a single, and a walk. Teammates Josh Naylor, Randal Grichuk, and Corbin Carroll each notched two hits, contributing to the D-backs’ overall success. This victory marked their first back-to-back wins since late April.
Burnes showcased his dominance by striking out Mickey Moniak with the bases loaded in the fourth, effectively ending the Rockies’ best scoring opportunity of the night. The Rockies now find themselves with a grim 2-21 record on the road this season, including a staggering 1-21 in night games.
Looking ahead, RHP Germán Márquez (1-6, 8.27 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Rockies against RHP Zac Gallen (3-5, 4.59) on Saturday.
