Maricopa police and fire departments responded to a crash involving a Mazda sedan late Monday night at Maricopa Casa Grande Highway and Plainview Street. The incident was reported around 9:40 p.m. on December 23, 2024.

According to Capt. Stephen Judd of the Maricopa Police Department, the vehicle was traveling westbound when the crash occurred shortly before the reported time. The driver lost control, striking a curb and running over a street sign before ending up in a ditch near Stagestop Marketplace.

Officers at the scene observed no signs of impairment. Judd stated that distracted driving is the suspected cause of the accident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the incident, which highlights ongoing concerns about road safety and the impacts of distractions while driving.
