Cooler days on the way with potential rain

Windy and cooler weather is on the horizon for Arizona this week, with substantial gusts expected, particularly in higher elevations.

PHOENIX — As the new month begins, a significant shift in weather patterns is anticipated across Arizona. Monday will usher in scattered clouds and increasing winds, particularly in the high country. By afternoon, the Valley will also feel the breeze.

Tuesday is poised to bring stronger winds as a low-pressure system approaches the state. Gusts may reach 30 mph in Phoenix and exceed 50 mph in higher areas. A wind advisory will take effect in the mountains starting at 11 a.m. that day.

Expect scattered rain and snow in the high country on Wednesday, although the Valley might see only a brief shower. Snow levels are expected to drop to around 6,000 feet, which could result in some flakes at elevations as low as 5,000 feet, particularly near Prescott and Payson.

The unsettled weather pattern is likely to persist through the end of the week, with cooler-than-normal temperatures and a continued chance of rain or snow in higher elevations. However, by the weekend, the forecast suggests a return to the 80s in the Valley.

Here’s the seven-day forecast for the region:

MONDAY: 83°F / 60°F – Scattered clouds; breezy at times.

TUESDAY: 76°F / 61°F – Windy with cooler temperatures.

WEDNESDAY: 68°F / 52°F – Cooler with a slight chance of rain.

THURSDAY: 74°F / 51°F – Partly cloudy.

FRIDAY: 75°F / 54°F – Partly cloudy.

SATURDAY: 80°F / 56°F – Scattered clouds.

SUNDAY: 82°F / 58°F – Mainly sunny and seasonable.
