Conor McGregor says he's in negotiations with Logan Paul for boxing exhibition in India

Conor McGregor, previously the leading star in the UFC, has been sidelined since a leg injury sustained during a fight against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. The 36-year-old athlete announced via social media early Tuesday that he is in talks to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Logan Paul in a boxing exhibition scheduled to take place in India.

McGregor claimed he is in “preliminary agreements” with the family of Mukesh Ambani, a billionaire industrialist, for this upcoming matchup. Expressing enthusiasm, he stated, “I have agreed.” However, the fighter denied persistent rumors regarding a potential bout with UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, insisting he would return to the Octagon only after facing Paul.

Topuria also refuted claims of an upcoming fight, stating on his own social media, “The rumors of a bout with mchicken are false. I don’t fight nor am I interested in fighting with a rapist.” His remarks come against the backdrop of recent legal troubles for McGregor, who was ordered to pay nearly 250,000 Euros (approximately $257,000) to a woman alleging serious sexual offenses by him in 2018.

Nikita Hand, the woman involved in the case, reported enduring significant physical and psychological trauma due to the incident. McGregor has maintained his innocence, claiming the encounter was consensual and asserting that the accusations were fabricated. The Associated Press typically refrains from naming alleged victims of sexual violence unless they publicly come forward, as Hand has done.

McGregor’s return to fighting has been delayed by injuries, including a broken toe that caused him to withdraw from a planned matchup with Michael Chandler last June. Meanwhile, Logan Paul continues to build his boxing reputation; he previously fought Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition match and has made headlines alongside his brother Jake Paul, who recently won a unanimous decision over former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
