Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona closed for the holidays

In observance of the holiday season, all facilities of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona will close from Wednesday, December 25, to Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Locations affected include the Willcox Distribution Center at 401 E. Maley St., Caridad Community Kitchen at 845 N. Main Ave., and Las Milpitas Community Farm at 2405 S. Cottonwood Ln.

Those facing immediate food insecurity can access emergency distribution services starting Thursday, January 2, at 8 a.m., located at the Community Food Bank, 3003 S. Country Club Rd.

The food bank services five counties throughout Southern Arizona and operates primarily on donations. Contributions in both monetary and food forms are accepted at the Winterhaven Festival Lights until Saturday, December 28. Beyond food distribution, they also offer valuable resources such as gardening workshops at Las Milpitas Community Farm, aimed at enhancing residents’ gardening skills.

Additionally, the food bank organizes the Santa Cruz River Farmers’ Market every Thursday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mercado San Agustin Annex, 267 S. Avenida del Convento. This market features local produce and educational activities, including cooking demonstrations. It will be closed on December 26 and January 2, 2025.

For ease of access, the food bank’s website includes an interactive map detailing locations across Southern Arizona where emergency groceries and prepared meals are available. The map provides essential contact information and operating hours for various sites, including local fire stations and businesses in Tucson and nearby cities like Oro Valley, Sahuarita, Green Valley, Marana, and Nogales.

Post-holiday, regular hours for food distribution at the Community Food Bank on South Country Club Rd. will continue on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Comprehensive details regarding emergency supplies, hours, and locations can be accessed via their website.
