The Stronghold Fire continues to burn near Sunsites-Pearce, Arizona, covering 2,138 acres and is currently 62% contained. This wildfire, located approximately 16 miles south of Cochise, has prompted local authorities to adjust evacuation statuses for residents in the surrounding areas.
Cochise County officials announced that residents west of Cochise Stronghold Road and south of Ironwood Road have been downgraded from “GO” to “SET” status, affecting around 25 homes. The fire has stabilized over several days, but the situation remains fluid.
As of now, campgrounds and trailheads in the vicinity remain under scrutiny, with no clear information on evacuation orders for these areas. The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to prepare for potential evacuations, recommending that those still in affected zones prioritize their safety and consider leaving promptly with essential items.

Ground crews are actively working to reinforce containment lines, especially in the Dragoon Mountains and Grapevine Canyon regions. As of now, 265 personnel are engaged in combating the fire, utilizing both ground and aerial resources.
Recent updates indicate that while new flames have appeared within the controlled boundaries, aerial monitoring continues to ensure the fire does not reignite. Fire engines are patrolling the perimeter to prevent flare-ups.
Authorities are encouraging residents to maintain readiness, particularly those under “READY” status in regions near Middle March Road and West Eastland Street. These individuals are advised to stay alert as evacuation orders could be issued on short notice. Communication regarding further developments will be disseminated by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
