Maricopa Announces Second Annual Wild West Music Festival

The City of Maricopa is gearing up for the second annual Wild West Music Festival, set for April 4 to 6 at Copper Sky Regional Park. Last year’s inaugural festival resulted in a loss of approximately $250,000, but city officials remain optimistic about the upcoming event.

No official music lineup has been revealed. Ticket sales dates are also yet to be announced, though last year’s prices ranged from $15 for children to $125 for VIP access.

Mayor Nancy Smith emphasized the festival’s role in boosting local tourism and the economy. “The Wild West Music Fest is more than just a festival; it’s a catalyst for our tourism industry,” she remarked in the city newsletter. The event aims to create memorable experiences and foster community pride.

Despite last year’s financial challenges, the festival attracted 15,000 to 17,000 attendees, many from outside Maricopa. Smith stated the event would feature local and national entertainment alongside a variety of food, carnival rides, and activities, aiming to draw even larger crowds this year.

The city is once again partnering with Steve Levine Entertainment, the Scottsdale firm that coordinated last year’s event. City officials are focused on ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere while also enhancing safety and cleanliness for attendees.

Funding for the 2024 festival will largely come from the city’s “Bed Tax,” a revenue source generated from visitors staying in Maricopa. This tax is earmarked exclusively for promoting tourism, minimizing the financial burden on local residents.

Following the previous festival, financial analysis showed a significant loss of $251,448, despite total revenues of $826,306. The major costs included entertainment, infrastructure, and security, with the largest single expense being artist fees, which accounted for nearly half of the total expenses.

As preparations continue, city spokesperson Monica Williams has not disclosed specifics about the upcoming performers or other details. Officials stress that establishing a successful event requires maintaining low prices and high standards of safety, cleanliness, and traffic management.

The Wild West Music Festival aims to solidify Maricopa’s reputation as a prime tourist destination while providing an enjoyable experience for both residents and visitors alike.
