City of Uvalde Unveils Robb Elementary Shooting Records Following Media Settlement
On Saturday, previously withheld information regarding the law enforcement response to the 2022 Robb Elementary School mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, was released, following a lawsuit by a coalition of media organizations. The tragic event claimed the lives of 19 students and two teachers.
In August 2022, various news outlets collectively sued the City of Uvalde to obtain crucial documents, videos, and 911 calls. These records were necessary for providing the victims’ families with a clearer understanding of the actions and information law enforcement had on that fateful day. The city recently settled in favor of the media coalition, allowing public access to these materials.
The coalition comprises several media outlets, including TEGNA’s stations such as WFAA in Dallas-Fort Worth, KHOU 11 in Houston, and others spanning across Texas. The released records became accessible at noon on Saturday, and detailed scrutiny of the documents is currently underway. Further updates will be provided throughout the day, with careful consideration to the sensitivities of affected families.
This case is distinct from a separate legal battle the coalition has with the Department of Public Safety (DPS). Although a judge has ordered the release of DPS-held materials, that particular legal process is still ongoing.
