City updates PreservePHX plan

Originally a Valley National Bank Branch, the modernist building at 44th Street and Camelback Road was designed by the architectural firm of Weaver and Drover and completed in 1968 (photo by Paul Sikorski courtesy of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office).

The City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office is advancing its PreserveHistoricPHX 2025 plan. This marks the first major update since the original preservation plan was adopted in 2015, establishing a framework for the city’s historical initiatives.

The updated plan aims to evaluate the progress made since 2015, confront emerging challenges, and explore new avenues for enhancing historic preservation efforts in Phoenix. A draft of this plan will be shared with Village Planning Committees for their recommendations in June, followed by presentations to the Historic Preservation and Planning commissions in July and August. The Phoenix City Council is anticipated to take action in September.

The draft plan is accessible at www.phoenix.gov/pdd/historic-preservation. Community members can provide feedback by emailing historic@phoenix.gov or contacting the Historic Preservation office at 602-261-8699.
