Circle K Shootout: Officer Sebastian Sanchez Discharged from Hospital After Heroic Battle

Maricopa Police Officer Sebastian Sanchez has returned home after spending a week in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds sustained during a violent confrontation. The incident occurred at a Circle K convenience store, where Sanchez was shot by a known felon, Keith Prock.
Pinal County’s Special Investigative Unit provided new information this morning, detailing the events leading up to the shooting. Prock was recognized as a violent offender and was at the Circle K around 2:50 p.m. last Thursday when officers attempted to apprehend him. Instead of complying, Prock fled, firing multiple shots at Sanchez.
Body camera footage from the incident reveals Sanchez repeatedly shouting, “stop, man,” shortly before Prock brandished his weapon. The footage captures the moment Prock shot Sanchez, causing him to collapse. In distress, Sanchez can be heard calling for help, saying, “I’m hit,” while other officers pursued Prock, ultimately fatally wounding him at the scene.
This chaotic encounter unfolded just 20 minutes after schoolchildren had been dismissed, raising concerns due to the gas station’s proximity to a high school, a frequent stop for students after classes. Investigators have confirmed that Prock was affiliated with a gang and had an extensive criminal record.
Maricopa Police Chief Mark Goodman addressed the incident’s implications, stating, “This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers our officers face every day to keep our community safe. Our department is like a family, so when one of us is hurt, we all feel it. Thankfully, our officer survived, and their prognosis is positive.” Despite the encouraging outlook, Sanchez’s injuries are serious and will require significant recovery time.
Officer Sanchez is a dedicated member of the Maricopa police force, working in the motorcycle unit. He has previously participated in community outreach, including a ride-along program and a presentation on drunk driving for local high school students.
The investigation into the circumstances of the shootout at the Circle K continues, with authorities working to piece together the events leading up to the confrontation.
