UPDATE 5:35 p.m. April 22, 2025 – City officials confirmed that a minor was hit by a slow-moving vehicle just before 3 p.m. today in Maricopa.

Monica Williams, a spokesperson for the Maricopa Police Department, reported that a child, who remains unnamed, was struck at low speeds while turning at the intersection of Honeycutt Road and Maricopa Groves Parkway. Fortunately, the child received evaluation on-site, and, after assessment, the parents opted for no further medical treatment.

ORIGINAL STORY 3:47 p.m. April 22, 2025 – A young girl was involved in a vehicle collision shortly before 3 p.m. at the junction of Honeycutt Road and Maricopa Groves Parkway, near Butterfield Elementary School.

Emergency personnel attended to the girl’s leg on the sidewalk. She remained aware and alert throughout the treatment while still wearing her helmet. Paramedics prepared to transfer her onto a stretcher as an ambulance and fire unit responded for traffic management.

Traffic flow was unaffected by the incident, but details about the cause of the collision or potential charges against the driver are still unknown. The city has been contacted for additional information.

This incident follows a recent event earlier this month when two elementary school children were struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter in Glennwilde.

This developing story will be updated as further information becomes available.
