Chandler Fire Department Celebrates Historic Arrival of 19 Babies in 2024

In a heartwarming assembly, the Chandler Fire Department celebrated the arrival of 19 babies born to its members in 2024. This notable baby boom was marked by a photo shoot featuring 15 of the newest additions to this close-knit fire family.

Among the proud parents is Penni Cyrus, a firefighter for seven years, who introduced her child, Kade, currently 11 months old. “Not this many in one year,” Cyrus remarked, highlighting the uniqueness of this moment in the department’s history.

Reflecting on this phenomenon, fellow firefighter Jack Bernard humorously suggested, “I think there’s just something in the water in Chandler.” His family recently welcomed daughter Jersey, who brought joy to the gathering with her seven-month-old smile.

The infants ranged from three weeks to 11 months, with some families celebrating the arrival of twins. On a beautiful Saturday, they convened at the Chandler Public Safety Training Center, creating a warm atmosphere filled with laughter and camaraderie.

“I’m shocked that we had such a great turnout,” Bernard noted, considering the challenges of coordinating different schedules and sick babies. His sentiments were echoed by Donaldo Lopez, a veteran firefighter who welcomed his fifth child, Dorothy, this year. Lopez called being a parent a significant journey and reiterated the importance of shared experiences with a supportive partner.

With rich insights from the more seasoned dads, Lopez reminded his colleagues about the lasting memories made on special days, emphasizing, “You can’t get those moments back, so make sure you take advantage of being there for those.” His advice resonated with many in attendance, who were eager to embrace the joys of parenthood.

As 2025 approaches, the parents look forward to new milestones ahead, from playtime to teething. “I think this next generation is going to have an awesome future,” Cyrus expressed optimistically, as all parents shared a vision for a bright tomorrow.
