Chandler Cop Murder Suspect Found Guilty of Pinal County Crimes

Jonathon Altland, 29, has been found guilty of crimes linked to the chaotic events preceding the death of Chandler police officer Christopher Farrar in 2021.
The verdict comes from Pinal County, where Altland was convicted of aggravated assault against a police officer and unlawful flight. This situation unfolded on April 29, 2021, revealing the dangerous nature of that day’s events.
The trouble began when law enforcement attempted to pull Altland over near Picacho. He allegedly fled, firing a shot at a deputy, before leading authorities on a pursuit that continued into the East Valley.
The chase culminated in a crash at a car dealership, where Officer Farrar responded. Tragically, he was struck and killed by a vehicle reportedly driven by Altland. In addition, another officer from the Gilbert Police Department sustained serious injuries during the incident.
Altland now faces a maximum sentence of 21 years in prison in relation to the Pinal County charges. Pinal County Attorney Brad Miller expressed satisfaction with the outcome, emphasizing that public safety remains a priority.
Despite his convictions in Pinal County, Altland’s charges related to Officer Farrar’s death in Maricopa County are still pending. Prosecutors there have indicated plans to seek the death penalty should he be convicted of murder.
The community continues to remember Officer Christopher Farrar, who dedicated 18 years to the Chandler police force. His service and sacrifice are etched in the memories of his colleagues and the public alike.
