Cause of Death Revealed for Rapper Fatman Scoop After Shocking On-Stage Collapse in Connecticut
Hip-hop artist Fatman Scoop, born Isaac Freeman III, has died at the age of 53 following a performance in Hamden, Connecticut. The state medical examiner’s office confirmed that the cause of death was hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
Freeman collapsed on stage while performing on August 30 and was subsequently hospitalized. Sadly, he did not recover. His family expressed their grief on Instagram, describing him as “a radiant soul, a beacon on stage and in life.”
Known widely for his hit single “Be Faithful,” which gained significant popularity in the early 2000s, Fatman Scoop made a name for himself both as a rapper and hype man. He is fondly remembered for his collaborations with major artists like Missy Elliott and Mariah Carey.
With a distinctive gravelly voice, he became a staple of dance club playlists, especially in the early 2000s. Beyond his music, his family emphasized his role as a source of laughter and support in their lives, noting, “His joy was infectious, and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed.”
Fatman Scoop also had a presence on television. He appeared on the U.K. series “Chancers” in 2004 and participated in “Celebrity Big Brother 16” in 2015. His impact on the music industry was solidified with his notable contribution to Missy Elliott’s “Lose Control,” a Grammy-winning track featuring Ciara.
Throughout his career, he collaborated with talented artists, including Mariah Carey on “It’s Like That” and worked with producers like Timbaland and David Guetta. In 2018, he reunited with Elliott and Ciara for a remix of “Level Up,” showcasing his lasting influence in the hip-hop community.
