CatFoot drops home opener 28-21, giving up 4th-quarter touchdown

The Catalina Foothills Falcons fell to the Combs Coyotes in a closely contested home opener on Thursday night, ultimately losing 28-21 after conceding a touchdown in the final minutes.

This non-conference game marked a significant victory for the Coyotes, as it was their first season-opening win in three years under Coach Levi Hoaglund. The tense match saw both teams tied at 14 at halftime.

The game turned dramatic when, with only minutes remaining and the score tied at 21, Combs quarterback #3 Kannin Hale connected on a stunning 78-yard pass to wide receiver #11 Branson Moak. Moak outpaced the Falcons’ defense, clinching the decisive touchdown and sending Combs fans into a frenzy.

Moak’s performance was nothing short of remarkable; he scored all four of Combs’ touchdowns, accumulating a total of 174 receiving yards from six catches and adding 52 rushing yards. This effort brought his all-purpose yardage to an impressive 226 yards.

“Catalina Foothills is a very good team; we had a tough matchup against them last year,” Hoaglund acknowledged. “Tonight, the goal was to come out 1-0, and they made that really tough on us. But to get that first win out of the way feels good,” he added.
