Cash App Settlement: Eligible Users Could Receive Up to $2,500

Cash App customers impacted by data breaches between 2018 and 2024 could be eligible for compensation of up to $2,500. This follows a settlement designed to reimburse affected users.
Cash App, a popular smartphone application for banking and investment owned by Block, Inc., experienced data breaches in April 2022 and October 2023. A lawsuit filed in August 2022 accused the company of negligence and misrepresentation in handling the data breaches.
The resulting $15 million settlement aims to address the financial losses of impacted users. Eligible customers can claim up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket expenses that can be traced back to the data breaches. Expenses such as fees for credit monitoring, accounting services, and costs incurred from missed payments or overdraft fees are included. Some users might also qualify for up to $75 for lost time or additional transaction losses.
To qualify, individuals must have been affected by the data breaches or experienced unauthorized transactions or unresolved errors in their Cash App account between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024. Notifications have been sent via mail and email, but those impacted can file a claim without receiving a Notice ID.
All claims must be submitted by November 18, 2024, with the final approval hearing scheduled for December 16, 2024. Payments will be issued after this date, either via check or electronic transfer.
