Cardinals tight end Trey McBride sets NFL record for most catches in a season without a touchdown

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride has achieved an unusual NFL milestone, setting the record for the most receptions without a touchdown. His notable statistic now stands at 89 catches.

This record-breaking moment occurred during the game against the Patriots when McBride received a shovel pass from quarterback Kyler Murray in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, he was tackled just shy of the end zone.

McBride’s record overtakes the previous mark of 86, held by Diontae Johnson, set in 2022 while with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite the bittersweet nature of this achievement, McBride has been a central figure for the Cardinals, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards with 938 yards to date.

As he continues his season, the former Colorado State star now has 87 catches—making him the record holder for the most catches in a single season without a receiving touchdown in NFL history.

The Cardinals’ next games will be pivotal as McBride aims to add a touchdown to his impressive, yet frustrating, record.
