Car Thief Shocked to Discover Driver Ready for Action

A Maricopa man faced significant consequences after attempting to break into a car late Saturday night. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on Liles Lane in The Lakes neighborhood, where 27-year-old Miguel E. Fonseca was caught trying various car doors.
His search for an unlocked vehicle came to a startling halt when he successfully opened a driver’s side door—only to find the car’s owner reclined in the seat inside. According to the Maricopa Police Department report, Fonseca’s initial rush of adrenaline quickly turned into panic upon discovering he was not alone.
Feeling threatened, Fonseca yelled at the driver in Spanish, prompting the occupant to call for help from his father. Before Fonseca could escape, the father and two brothers arrived on the scene, confronting him in the street.
Despite the escalating situation, Fonseca allegedly retaliated by cursing and raising his arms as if he intended to attack them. This prompted the three men to chase him, leading to a physical confrontation where the father managed to pin Fonseca to the ground. Reports indicate that Fonseca attempted to retaliate by spitting and throwing punches.
In an investigation following the incident, authorities confirmed that Fonseca has ties to the Mexican Mafia, a recognized prison gang. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Pinal County jail on multiple charges, including one count of assault, four counts of disorderly conduct, and one count of attempted vehicle burglary. If convicted, he could face nearly six years in prison.
