California stalker drove to Maricopa for planned suicide by cop: report

An accused stalker from California was arrested in Maricopa after allegedly planning a suicide-by-cop scenario. Isaiah A. Slaton, 25, made the six-hour drive to his ex-girlfriend’s residence, prompting concerns for her safety.

According to a probable cause statement from the Maricopa Police Department, Slaton was taken into custody on felony stalking charges on Friday morning. The ex-girlfriend, whose home he approached, sought a restraining order after he claimed he would stage the suicide attempt if she contacted the authorities.

Public records indicate that Slaton resides in Hesperia, California, located north of San Bernardino. After his ex contacted law enforcement, Slaton allegedly denied any intention of coming to Maricopa during a phone call on August 15, suggesting that he had canceled a job interview linked to her workplace.

However, surveillance from Flock license plate-reading cameras contradicted his claims, revealing that Slaton’s vehicle was recorded driving through Maricopa on August 16 at 9:51 a.m. Law enforcement located him near Jubilee Place and Festival Lane, where he was subsequently arrested.

During the arrest, Slaton acknowledged stalking his ex-girlfriend, admitting that he was aware she had blocked him on social media. Following his apprehension, he was booked into the Pinal County Jail and remains there on a $5,000 bond. If convicted, he could face a presumptive sentence of three years in prison.
