California man sentenced to alcohol counseling in alleged poolside groping incident

A California man, Christopher D. McElroy, 62, admitted to misdemeanor assault charges stemming from an incident at the Nautical Beachfront Resort in Lake Havasu City last month. The altercation occurred on August 24 while a woman was enjoying the pool, conversing with her sister and a friend.

According to police, the victim experienced an unwanted advance when McElroy allegedly placed his hand between her thighs. The woman, who was in a bikini top and swim shorts, reacted strongly, demanding that he “get the fuck away” from her.

Witnesses report that McElroy laughed off her response and swam away. Surveillance cameras supported the victim’s account, capturing the incident as it unfolded.

Following the event, Nautical Resort security intervened and removed McElroy from the pool area, escorting him to his hotel room while law enforcement was summoned. When confronted by police, McElroy claimed he had been drinking heavily that day and was unaware of the situation that led to his removal.

A search of his hotel room revealed a half-empty gallon of liquor. McElroy was subsequently arrested and taken to the Lake Havasu City Police Department, where a breathalyzer test indicated a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.131.

On August 29, McElroy pleaded guilty in Lake Havasu Municipal Court. His sentence includes $482 in fines and fees, mandatory alcohol treatment counseling, and a period of unsupervised probation. Additionally, he has been banned from returning to the Nautical Beachfront Resort.
