At a time when higher education costs are escalating, the Central Arizona College Foundation is taking significant steps to keep education accessible for students in Pinal County and nearby areas. This 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization has made remarkable strides in supporting academic aspirations through increased scholarships.
This past academic year saw a notable rise in scholarships distributed by the foundation. By the end of May, students at Central Arizona College had received 299 scholarships, a jump from 258 in the previous year. Financial support also surged, growing from $164,000 in the 2022-23 academic year to an impressive $213,592 last year.
Craig Kurtz, executive director of the Central Arizona College Foundation, highlighted the foundation’s dedication. “The CAC Foundation is dedicated to the students and families of Pinal County,” Kurtz stated. He emphasized the foundation’s efforts to inform the college community about available scholarships and requirements through a weekly online presence. The financial aid department has played a crucial role, being “100% dedicated to our students on a daily basis,” according to Kurtz.
The foundation, established in 1968 by Pinal County citizens, aims to enhance resources, raise funds, and build partnerships to support the college’s mission. The collaboration between the college and the foundation demonstrates a robust model of educational partnership. Endowments and scholarships funded by corporations, foundations, and individuals provide a vital financial lifeline for both the institution and its students.
New scholarships introduced include the Women in Engineering Scholarship, Calib Rodriguez Culinary Scholarship, James Whitson McQueen IT & Nursing Scholarships, and the Bright Night Energy Electrician/HVAC Certification Scholarship. Additional undergraduate and transfer scholarships honor the contributions of figures like former instructor and Cross Country/Track and Field Coach George Young, and Director of Financial Aid Elisa Juarez.
The Central Arizona College Foundation also collaborates with the college to offer the Pinal Promise. Formerly known as Promise for the Future, this initiative guarantees two academic years of tuition for students graduating from Pinal County high schools.
