The second annual Bunny Bash brought festive cheer to Central Arizona College’s Maricopa campus, attracting families for a day filled with activities and excitement.

This Easter celebration is rapidly becoming a cherished spring tradition. It featured free activities, live music, giveaways, and a special appearance by Hoppy the Bunny, much to the delight of attendees.

Held from 12 to 5:30 p.m., the event welcomed a steady stream of parents and children. Many families enjoyed capturing memories with Hoppy and CAC’s mascot, Vaquero Pete, avoiding long drives to malls for similar experiences.

“With no malls here, parents used to have to drive all the way into the Valley,” explained Irene Esquivel, CAC’s student services director and the event’s organizer. “We created Bunny Bash to give local families something festive and fun right here in Maricopa.”

Children joyfully donned bunny ears and bright pastels as they collected treat bags filled with candy eggs and art supplies. In addition to the egg hunt, they had the opportunity to engage in art, visit local vendors, and dance along to family-friendly music.

“We try to schedule these events on Wednesdays since schools let out early,” remarked Esquivel. “This is only our second year, and the turnout has been incredible.”

For families like Myla Kazim’s, the event served as a perfect spring outing. “This is our first year, and we love it,” said Kazim as her children eagerly explored the different tables.

Interestingly, it wasn’t just the kids who captured attention. Hudson, a golden doodle training as a CAC police dog, attracted admirers, nearly rivaling the popularity of the Easter bunny.

As Hoppy made his final round for photos, Esquivel surveyed the bustling scene with satisfaction. “It’s been a good wave,” she noted.
