Bunker Bar heads into fifth year, celebrates growth within community

The Bunker Bar, nestled north of Lake Havasu City, is set to reopen its doors to the public on January 1, 2020. This outdoor venue has rapidly become a go-to spot for those passionate about desert adventures. Co-owner and General Manager Matthew Caley reports that seasonal attendance can reach up to 60,000 visitors. The excitement surrounding the bar’s fifth anniversary festivities is palpable.

“When we first opened, I had no expectations. Seeing the enthusiasm from returning visitors after the summer is truly rewarding,” Caley remarked, highlighting the establishment’s integration into the off-roading community.

The seasonal kickoff will be celebrated starting Friday, with business hours remaining consistent. Live music is making a comeback, featuring both returning and new artists. “We aim to diversify our entertainment offerings this season,” Caley stated.

The menu is also expanding, with new food items and a fresh signature cocktail. Guests can look forward to updated merchandise featuring new designs. “Our patrons are amazing people who frequently visit for our friendly staff and accompanying live music,” Caley added, emphasizing the bonds formed with regular customers.

In prioritizing a clean environment, the Bunker Bar maintains a pet-free policy, which sometimes attracts criticism. “Though it may not appeal to everyone, most understand the reasoning behind our policy,” explained Caley.

Community engagement is a focal point for the bar. Past events like the Turkey Testicle Festival and a holiday toy drive are expected to return, reinforcing the establishment’s commitment to charity and local partnerships. These collaborations include contributions from the Havasu Side by Side Trail Association and the Desert Hills Fire District. Notably, the annual Rick Seales Veterans Ride recently resulted in over 200 meals being provided to veterans.

Caley recalled the joy of last year’s toy drive, where children eagerly lined up to meet Santa Claus. “It’s such a heartwarming event that our team genuinely looks forward to every year,” he reflected.

Despite seasonal closures, staff retention remains strong. Caley expressed gratitude for returning employees, noting only three positions needed to be filled from a team of over twenty. “We’ve been fortunate; staffing hasn’t been a significant concern,” he confirmed.

The Bunker Bar is located at 6942 N. Thirsty Lizard Road. The hours of operation are noon to 5 p.m. on Fridays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, with live music commencing at noon each day.
