Build a Barrier: $850K Steel Project Shields Apartments from Traffic Risk
Crews are actively working on a new corrugated metal wall along the eastern side of Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway, a project that has caught the attention of local drivers. As of January 30, 2025, installation was ongoing between Plainview and Porter Roads, marking a significant development in the area.
This initiative aims to enhance the appearance of the corridor, as confirmed by city spokesperson Monica Williams. “We’re enhancing the corridor’s overall appearance,” she stated. The new fencing not only serves an aesthetic purpose but also addresses practical concerns. As more residential developments arise along this busy stretch, the barrier helps mitigate noise and dust from the highway.
Nearby, construction crews have been busy at the Overland Waterman Butterfield project, the largest apartment complex currently underway in the city. Located just 150 yards from the highway, the new fencing provides residents with a more pleasant living environment, shielding them from traffic views.
The total investment for this project is $850,000, with approximately 41% of the budget already allocated for steel materials and installation, according to Williams. Notably, Maricopa-based LP Steel is the primary supplier, supporting local business initiatives.
The installation of the fence is taking place in phases, with the first phase currently in progress. Completion is anticipated after July 1, 2025, as the city continues to improve the area for its growing population.
