Brooks scores 3 TDs, Texas Tech rallies after blowing lead to beat Arizona 28-22

TUCSON, Ariz. — In a thrilling matchup on Saturday night, Texas Tech defeated Arizona 28-22. The game showcased Tahj Brooks’ impressive performance, as he rushed for 128 yards and scored three touchdowns. The victory marked a significant achievement for Texas Tech, which improved its season record to 5-1 and maintained a perfect 3-0 in the Big 12 conference.

The Red Raiders initially established a commanding lead, scoring consistently and placing immense pressure on Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita. Texas Tech’s defense intercepted two of Fifita’s passes and forced a turnover on downs, allowing them to build an 18-3 lead by halftime.

Despite Texas Tech’s strong start, Arizona fought back. The Wildcats’ defense capitalized on Brooks’ two fumbles, allowing them to take a 19-18 lead early in the fourth quarter. Following a missed field goal attempt by Arizona’s Tyler Loop, Texas Tech regained the momentum. Gino Garcia’s successful 41-yard field goal shifted the score to 21-19.

In a dramatic turn of events, Arizona was poised to score when Jacob Rodriguez stripped the ball from receiver Tetairoa McMillan. Texas Tech recovered the fumble, leading to Brooks’ final touchdown run, which sealed the game. This marked Texas Tech’s fourth consecutive victory following an early-season loss to Washington State.

The Red Raiders made early offensive gains with Brooks scoring on a three-yard run in the first quarter. Their defense was tenacious, managing to limit Arizona’s offensive opportunities. Texas Tech intercepted a pass late in the second quarter, culminating in Garcia’s last-second field goal that stretched the lead to 18-3.

Arizona managed to rally late in the game but struggled with missed opportunities and critical turnovers. Despite a strong second-half effort, the Wildcats were unable to clinch the win, leaving them at 3-2 for the season and 1-1 in conference play.

Looking ahead, Texas Tech will host Baylor next Saturday. Meanwhile, Arizona prepares to face No. 17 BYU in a challenging away match.
