Bronson Calls for a Bold New Direction for Southern Arizona

Sharon Bronson, former chair of the Pima County Board of Supervisors, served District 3 from 1996 to 2023. In a recent statement, she reflected on her nearly three-decade experience and the importance of local leadership that prioritizes community needs.
Bronson pointed out that families in Pima County are facing increasing financial pressures, with rising grocery prices and rents. “During challenging times, effective leadership is crucial,” she stated, noting the detrimental choices made by some elected officials. These decisions, she argues, have exacerbated the difficulties local families encounter.
A key issue Bronson highlighted was the decision made by her former colleague, Adelita Grijalva, to support a sales tax increase in Tucson. “While sales taxes can be justified at times, this was not one of those moments,” she explained. For families living paycheck to paycheck, any additional expense can severely impact their budgets, especially for seniors on fixed incomes.
Despite respecting the contributions of Raúl Grijalva, Bronson emphasized the need for fresh perspectives in Southern Arizona politics. “We require innovative voices to address the challenges that Washington often overlooks,” she asserted. The community demands robust action on housing, employment, and cost of living issues—actions she believes have been insufficiently addressed.
As a solution, Bronson endorsed Daniel Hernandez for Congress. She praised his approach to public service, which emphasizes listening and community engagement. “Daniel consistently demonstrates commitment to affordable housing, job protection, and public education funding,” she said. His dedication to small business growth and practical problem-solving offers hope, according to Bronson.
With a call for transformative leadership, Bronson reaffirmed her belief that real change requires politicians willing to work hard for their constituents. “Southern Arizona deserves nothing less,” she concluded, expressing confidence in Hernandez’s ability to deliver that leadership.
