A U.S. Border Patrol agent was involved in a hit-and-run incident this afternoon on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway near Anderson Road. Fortunately, the agent emerged unscathed, according to authorities.
The crash occurred around 1:40 p.m., reported Monica Williams, spokesperson for the Maricopa Police Department.
Williams stated, “The agent’s car was sideswiped by another vehicle, which failed to stop.” The agent activated emergency lights and pursued the fleeing vehicle until it halted.
Upon arrival, police discovered the driver admitted fault for the collision. Charges of reckless driving and hit-and-run were filed. Williams noted that impairment did not seem to be a factor, and the driver was cited and released.
At the scene, authorities noted two unmarked federal vehicles, alongside a marked Maricopa Police unit and a public safety aide. Initial observations indicated no visible damage to the cars involved.
This incident comes amid increased federal immigration enforcement in the Maricopa area. On Tuesday, residents reported sightings of ICE and Homeland Security vehicles, raising concerns in the community.
While today’s collision was unrelated to those enforcement activities, it highlights the growing federal presence in the region, an issue that continues to be monitored closely.
